It looks like all the naughty fan boys aren’t on the West Coast at Comic-Con- apparently at least one hung back to cosplay rob a bank.
If you love the idea of using social networking to unite your far flung relatives but aren’t too excited about using a wide-open network like Facebook, Chattertree offers private and feature-rich social networks for families. You’ll find all the things you expect from a larger, Facebook-like social networking tool in Chattertree. Messaging, birthday alerts, group [...]
Just three days after adding crash protection to Firefox, Mozilla rushed out another release on Friday because people playing Farmville complained that their browser was shutting down the Facebook game. Mozilla added what it calls ”out of process plug-ins” (OOPP) — a feature designed to keep the browser up and running when a plug-in crashes — to [...]
Verizon Wireless will be selling the iPhone in January, according to a report filed by Bloomberg. Representatives from both Apple and Verizon did not comment on the matter, but Bloomberg is extremely confident about this one having verified it with two sources “who declined to be named because the information isn’t public.” Let’s just hope [...]
The latest crazy movie idea is to make a movie out of the infamous Facebook game Mafia Wars. What’s next, a Farmville movie? It would appear Hollywood executives are spending too much free time on Facebook. A film adaptation of the interactive Facebook game Mafia Wars is now in development. To be honest, I’m surprised it beat Farmville [...]

Apparently, everyone has long been baffled by how Leonardo da Vinci created such subtle shadows and light on the Mona Lisa. So much so that scientists X-rayed the painting to discover his technique. Scientists have discovered that da Vinci used a well known renaissance painting technique known as sfumato. For the non art historians among us, Sfumato is the mixing of thin layers of pigment, glaze, and oil to create lifelike shadows.
Microsoft suffered a wound to its public image today as it was revealed that a new Russian spy had been caught working at the company. Alexey Karetnikov had been working as a Software Design Engineer in Test at the Windows developer since October and was ordered out of the country on Monday after falling afoul of US immigration law. A Washington Post source in federal law enforcement, however, said that Karetnikov had “just set up shop” as a spy in Redmond, Washington and that the immigration charges were technicalities used without enough evidence of actual crimes to bring espionage charges so soon.
Yeah, seriously. While Aircell’s Gogo in-flight WiFi service has been blocking VoIP calling services (Skype being the most obvious example) from day one, it’s apparently not throwing the same brick wall in the face of Apple’s new standard. Our good pals over at TUAW managed to record a (relatively) solid two minute FaceTime conversation with an iPhone 4…
A young designer has invented a revolutionary folding bicycle that will stop thieves in their tracks.
Kevin Scott, 21, designed the space-age bike that wraps around a lamp post so it can be locked-up safely – without the need for a lock or chain.
The De Montfort University graduate used a ratchet system built into the frame of the bike to allow it to wrap around a pole, enabling the lock to be wrapped through both wheels and the frame.
While the mere mention of carbon fiber would make the automotive fans raise their heads, however, this time it has landed straight into your bathroom. Not that we haven’t heard of carbon fiber toilet seat before, but this collection Nerocarbonio by Alberto Del Biondi is a unique combination of great creativity and innovation. Apart from its lightness of course, the Nerocarbonio collection features a toilet and a bidet made completely out of carbon fiber. The unique feature that makes it to appear here on Born Rich is probably its design with the toilet taking a special form of the section of cover that hides the seat. With all the uniqueness and lightness of the material, it can’t be said if it will speed up the pooping process.
Stuck in the urban jungle and longing for greener places? We’ve all been there, but it’s not always easy to sneak away and take a short trip to the forest. DUS Architects made it possible to take a break from the concrete jungle and get back to nature with its uniquely wonderful project called Unlimited Urban Woods.
We’ve been longtime fans of Scottevest products here on Gadling – for a reason. Their travel garments provide the ultimate in storage, with some products offering travelers up to 25 pockets. On Twitter, Scott Jordan (the Scott in Scottevest) revealed some upcoming products that take things to the next level.
Paleontologists recently found fossils in Africa that indicate that multicellular life evolved on Earth 1.5 billion years before previously thought:
“The cursor on the origin of complex multicellular life is no longer 600 million years ago, as has long been maintained, but more like 2.1 billion years,” said Abderrazak El Albani, a researcher at the University of Poitiers and lead author of the study.
Microsoft has decided to stop development on its Kin operating system less than two months after the first devices running it were released. The Kin One and Two were designed for mobile social networking, but attracted few buyers.
Microsoft’s official statement on the matter says:
“We have made the decision to focus exclusively on Windows Phone 7 and we will not ship KIN in Europe this fall as planned. Additionally, we are integrating our KIN team with the Windows Phone 7 team, incorporating valuable ideas and technologies from KIN into future Windows Phone releases.”
